During a recent visit to Champagne, I was lucky enough to try the near mythical Bollinger Vieilles Vignes Françaises 1997 at Clos Chaudes Terres behind Bollinger HQ in Ay with the Wine Chick Kate Powell. The 100% Pinot Noir comes from ungrafted vines from this tiny pre-phylloxera clos and the neighbouring Clos St-Jacques. Only 3,000 bottles are made in exceptional vintages.
